Congressman Nick Langworthy delivered remarks on the House floor in support of H.R. 1, the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” calling for the permanent extension of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
Langworthy warned that key provisions of the current tax code are set to expire soon, which he said would result in “the largest tax increase in a generation.”
“Families will see their child tax credit slashed. Small businesses will lose vital expensing tools. Workers will see their paychecks shrink,” Langworthy said. “And those who can least afford it—working parents, middle class families—will be the ones hit the hardest.”
The bill, supported by Congressional Republicans and President Donald Trump, aims to preserve the tax reductions enacted in 2017. Langworthy said the measure would also expand relief for seniors, tipped workers, and those who earn income through overtime.
He accused Democrats of supporting tax increases by allowing the original act to sunset, while affirming that Republicans “will not allow Democrats to stand in the way of the economic future of the American people.”
