Geneva seeks assistant city manager to support leadership overhaul

The City of Geneva has announced the opening of a new Assistant City Manager (ACM) position, marking a key milestone in the city’s plan to streamline leadership and improve community services without increasing taxpayer costs.

City Manager Amie Hendrix confirmed the job posting on Wednesday, calling it “a key step in the thoughtful organizational changes we’ve been working toward over the past few months.” The ACM will help oversee departments such as economic development, parks and recreation, planning and zoning, facilities, and community development.

This newly created role, along with an upcoming coordinator position, will replace the city’s former Director of Economic Development and Recreation Director positions. According to Hendrix, the restructured model is designed to improve efficiency, reduce duplication, and ensure more responsive services.

“This new position reinforces our city values of care, integrity, and purpose,” said Hendrix. “By providing clearer leadership and accountability across multiple areas, the ACM will help us respond to resident concerns more quickly and implement creative solutions to local challenges.”

The ACM will also support cross-departmental collaboration, grant readiness, fiscal planning, and partnerships with agencies like the IDA and LDC. The position is fully funded within the existing city budget.

Qualified applicants should hold a Master’s degree in Public or Business Administration and one year of municipal experience, or a Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience. The salary range is $85,500–$100,500 with full management benefits.

Applications must be submitted through ontario-portal.mycivilservice.com. The first round of application reviews begins July 18, with panel interviews—including community and City Council members—expected in late July or early August. The position will remain open until filled.
