Kayaker drowns in private pond in Seneca

Emergency crews recovered the body of a man Monday evening after a kayak overturned in a private pond in the Town of Seneca.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, a 41-year-old male was fishing from a kayak when it capsized around 5:00 p.m. near Seneca Castle Road and Vogt Road. Authorities say the man entered the water and did not resurface.

Multiple agencies responded, including deputies, the Oaks Corners, Seneca Castle, and Hopewell fire departments, and Finger Lakes Ambulance. The Ontario County Underwater Search and Rescue Team located the man in the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s identity is being withheld. Deputies said no foul play is suspected, and the investigation remains ongoing.
