Sen. Gustavo Rivera is sounding the alarm over a Republican-backed Senate bill that could slash $880 billion from Medicaid, with New York potentially losing $70 billion, according to Spectrum News. Rivera says the state can’t absorb that blow without hiking taxes.
Counties warn the cuts would trigger a financial crisis. Rivera also addressed growing concerns over the state’s overhaul of the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP), defending the transition to a single fiscal intermediary as a move to curb fraud.
He plans to hold a CDPAP hearing on July 9 and credited Zohran Mamdani’s recent mayoral primary win to his progressive appeal. Rivera says protecting home care and Medicaid must remain top priorities.
