New York Yankees third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. was ejected during the ninth inning of Tuesday night’s game against the Cincinnati Reds after a heated exchange with home plate umpire Mark Wegner.
The incident stemmed from a disputed 2-0 pitch call during Chisholm’s at-bat in the top half of the inning.
Though visibly upset at the time, Chisholm’s frustration carried into the bottom of the ninth, when he emerged from the dugout to continue arguing. The confrontation escalated until Wegner ultimately ejected him from the game.
Manager Aaron Boone attempted to diffuse the situation, stepping in to calm Chisholm and physically guiding him back toward the Yankees’ dugout.
The contest extended into extra innings, with the Reds securing a 5-4 victory.
