On the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, Rep. Josh Riley marked the occasion by cosponsoring two federal bills aimed at restoring reproductive rights and protecting access to abortion care.
Riley, who represents New York’s 19th District, announced his support Tuesday for the Women’s Health Protection Act and the Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act. The bills seek to reestablish abortion protections and block states from criminalizing interstate travel for reproductive healthcare.
“When a radical Court took away a fundamental right, I said I would do everything in my power to fight back—and today, I am,” Riley said. “No woman in Upstate New York—or anywhere in America—should have her private medical choices dictated by extremist politicians or judges.”
Riley previously served as general counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, where he supported the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act and backed the Equal Rights Amendment. In the current Congress, he has joined the Equal Rights Amendment Caucus, cosponsored the Paycheck Fairness Act, and supported legislation protecting survivors of gender-based violence.
