Dryden United Methodist Church to close after nearly 200 years

Dryden United Methodist Church will close its doors June 30 after nearly two centuries of service, according to Tompkins Weekly. The decision comes amid falling membership and financial hardship, worsened by the COVID pandemic, said Rev. Robyn Hays.

The church, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has served the Dryden community since 1831. Its final service is set for June 29. Remaining members plan to join other nearby congregations, while the building’s future rests with the Upper New York Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Rev. Hays will relocate to Buffalo for a new pastoral role. She expressed sadness at the closure but pride in the church’s long-standing ministry and deep community roots.
