Social Security July Payment Dates and Changes Confirmed

Millions of Americans will receive their July 2025 Social Security payments on a staggered schedule, but this month comes with a twist: a major change is coming to paper check delivery that could impact when some beneficiaries get paid.

Here’s everything you need to know about when your July check is coming and what’s changing for beneficiaries.

July 2025 Social Security Payment Schedule

The Social Security Administration (SSA) follows a payment schedule based on birthdates and benefit types. Here’s the official payment calendar for July 2025:

🔹 Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

  • Payment Date: Tuesday, July 1
SSI benefits are always paid on the first of the month, unless it falls on a weekend or holiday.

🔹 Social Security Benefits for Those Who Retired Before May 1997

  • Payment Date: Wednesday, July 3
These recipients are paid on the 3rd of each month, regardless of birthdate.

🔹 Social Security Payments Based on Birth Date

For all other Social Security retirees and disability recipients, your payment date depends on your birthday:

Birthday RangePayment Date
1st–10thWednesday, July 10
11th–20thWednesday, July 17
21st–31stWednesday, July 24

💡 All payments are typically processed by direct deposit, with funds usually arriving by 9 a.m. local time on the scheduled day.

Major Change for Paper Check Recipients

Starting in July 2025, a significant shift is underway for paper check recipients. The SSA is phasing out paper checks for most beneficiaries, encouraging a full transition to direct deposit or Direct Express debit cards by September 30, 2025.

What You Need to Know:

  • Why it matters: Paper checks are more vulnerable to delays, theft, and fraud.
  • Who is affected: Anyone still receiving paper checks will need to choose a digital payment method or risk delays.
  • Deadline reminder: While not a hard cutoff, July marks the first phase of stricter enforcement for electronic delivery.

If you still receive a paper check, the SSA recommends enrolling in direct deposit now via ssa.gov or contacting your local Social Security office.

What to Do If Your Payment Is Delayed

If you haven’t received your July payment within three business days of your expected date:

  • Check with your bank or Direct Express first.
  • Then, contact the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778).
