Kraft Heinz will eliminate artificial food dyes from all its U.S. products by 2027. The announcement follows federal pressure on companies to phase out petroleum-based color additives amid health concerns.
Currently, nearly 90% of Kraft Heinz’s products already avoid synthetic dyes. The remaining items—mostly drinks and desserts like Kool-Aid, Jell-O, and Jet-Puffed marshmallows—will switch to natural colors. The company also plans to encourage its licensees to follow suit.
Health advocates have long criticized artificial dyes for potential links to hyperactivity in children. The FDA still considers approved dyes safe but is banning Red 3 by 2027 due to cancer risks found in lab rats.
