While there was plenty of talk about protests across the U.S. and Finger Lakes over the weekend, nearly 300 residents gathered peacefully along NY-96A in Ovid as part of the nationwide effort, demanding accountability from elected officials.
Organized by Indivisible Seneca, a non-partisan, volunteer-run grassroots group, the event featured an hour of peaceful sign-holding. Passing drivers responded with honks and waves. The group also raised $460 at the event to donate to Ovid Fire Relief.
Similar demonstrations occurred across the country, with organizers reporting over 12 million participants in towns and cities in all 50 states. Large turnouts were also seen in Seneca Falls and Ithaca.
Indivisible Seneca is co-hosting a public Town Hall on Tuesday, June 17, at 7 p.m. at the Smith Opera House in Geneva, focused on Social Security. The group’s next general meeting will take place June 26 at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Seneca Falls.
