No $5,000 stimulus check in June 2025 — how the ‘DOGE Dividend’ rumor went viral (and why it’s false)

A wave of excitement has been sweeping social media this June, with dozens of posts claiming “it’s official” that President Donald Trump and Elon Musk have teamed up to deliver a $5,000 “DOGE Dividend” to Americans. But despite the buzz, this story is completely false.

What’s the DOGE Dividend?

  • The idea was first floated in February 2025 by investor James Fishback, co-founder of Azoria Partners, who proposed giving taxpayers a $5,000 check funded by “savings” from the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
  • President Trump publicly praised the idea, saying it could reward taxpayers and encourage reporting of government waste.
  • DOGE’s verified savings to date total about $8.6 billion — far below the $2 trillion needed to fund checks. Elon Musk had initially suggested $1 trillion was more realistic.

Why this isn’t happening

  1. No bill has been introduced or passed in Congress to authorize DOGE Dividend payments.
  2. The IRS has confirmed there are no active stimulus check programs in 2025.
  3. Elon Musk exited DOGE leadership in May 2025, calling the current spending model “irresponsible.”
  4. House Republicans and fiscal watchdogs oppose the idea due to debt concerns.

Why the rumor spread so fast

  • Trump’s praise of the DOGE concept was misrepresented online as a formal policy commitment.
  • Scammers are exploiting the hype, creating fake IRS pages and texts to gather personal information.
  • Social media virality paired with financial desperation has made the false story believable to many.

What you can do

  • Do not click or respond to texts or social media posts promising a $5,000 stimulus.
  • Always verify claims via official sources like IRS.gov or Congress.gov.
  • If you’ve already submitted information, freeze your credit and report the fraud immediately.

Bottom line

There is no $5,000 DOGE Dividend check in June 2025. The idea exists only as a proposal and social media rumor. With no legislation, minimal funding, and the departure of its biggest advocate, there is no credible path to this payment becoming real.
