Can companies really help with passports? Yes—but read the fine print

Online services offering to handle your passport application for a fee are real, but caution is key. One such company, GovPlus, charges at least $67 to assist with applications, though it’s not directly listed on the U.S. State Department’s approved courier list.

GovPlus claims to operate through a registered subsidiary and has a “B” rating from the Better Business Bureau. These services may offer convenience, but they don’t speed up processing. The FTC warns to verify credentials before sharing personal information.

Forms are free through the government, so avoid any service that charges for them. If you’re paying for help, make sure it’s a legit, approved provider.
