Ontario County is preparing for the 2028 closure of its landfill by launching a feasibility study on biosolids disposal, according to the Finger Lakes Times. The Board of Supervisors’ Planning & Environmental Quality Committee approved a $75,000 contract with engineering firm Barton & Loguidice to explore alternatives.
The study will examine how biosolids—mainly food waste—are currently handled and propose future disposal or reuse options. With limited landfill space and rising costs, officials say long-term planning is essential to protect the environment and manage waste effectively.
Public outreach is planned once disposal options are identified.
