Geneva’s City Council has rejected a $3.84 million proposal to extend Long Pier into Seneca Lake, following a 4-4 vote that halted the project, according to the Finger Lakes Times. The pier expansion was part of a scaled-down plan tied to the city’s stalled marina project.
Supporters argued the extension would provide public access and ADA-compliant fishing opportunities. But opponents said it added debt without generating revenue and felt it contradicted the council’s decision to cancel the marina. The deciding vote was missing: Ward 2’s Bill Pealer did not attend.
While the extension failed, officials say funding remains available for $860,000 in needed repairs to stabilize the existing pier.
