Authorities have issued a full boating ban on Keuka Lake following heavy storms that raised water levels and scattered debris, creating hazardous conditions.
Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard and Yates County Sheriff Frank Ryan announced the advisory Tuesday, citing both safety risks and the potential for property damage along the lake’s shoreline.
“Due to floating and submerged debris a potential danger to safety also exists on Keuka Lake,” the joint release stated. Officials urged residents and visitors to cease all boating activity until water levels recede.
The restriction comes after recent storms dumped intense rainfall across the region, triggering lake surges and introducing debris that poses threats to vessels and docks.
No timeline was provided for lifting the ban. Authorities thanked the public for their cooperation and emphasized the need to prioritize safety during the high-water event.
