Auburn rally to spotlight democracy on June 13

Indivisible Cayuga will host a public rally this Friday to “Celebrate Democracy” and support the national No Kings! Day of Action, the group announced this week.

The rally, set for June 13 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the NYS Equal Rights Heritage Center plaza in Auburn, also honors the upcoming Juneteenth celebration in the city.

Organizers say the event is a call to defend American freedoms against all forms of tyranny. “From the tyranny of King George, to the tyranny of slavery, to the tyranny of an authoritarian power grab – we continue to defend our freedoms,” the advisory stated.

Speakers will include a U.S. Army veteran, a representative of the Harriet Tubman Boosters, a founder of Auburn’s Juneteenth festival, and a history teacher. Music and community participation will also be part of the program.

The event coincides with the eve of Flag Day and the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army. It is one of over 1,600 rallies nationwide tied to the No Kings campaign.

Indivisible Cayuga is a volunteer-run group in Cayuga County focused on protecting constitutional rights and the rule of law.
