Millions of Social Security recipients are seeing their largest payments yet this month—here’s why your check may be bigger.

Seniors enjoy an increases Social Security Payments

Social Security payments in June 2025 have reached a new all-time high, providing a financial boost to millions of Americans receiving retirement, SSDI, and SSI benefits.

According to the Social Security Administration (SSA), the average monthly benefit for retired workers now stands at $1,915, while individual SSI payments can go as high as $943 and SSDI checks average around $1,537.

Why Are June Payments So High?

The increase in June checks is primarily due to the 8.7% Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) that took effect in January 2025. While recipients have been seeing these higher amounts since the start of the year, June’s payments are drawing attention due to:

  • Full impact of the 2025 COLA now visible
  • SSDI and SSI recipients receiving back-to-back payments due to calendar shifts
  • Automatic adjustments for some beneficiaries due to inflation recalculations

These factors have combined to push June’s average payments to the highest level ever recorded.

Social Security benefits are distributed based on birth date and benefit type. Here’s the schedule:

  • SSDI/Retirement – Group 2 – Paid June 12 (DOB 1–10)

What If My Check Is Missing or Late?

If your payment hasn’t arrived within 3 business days of the scheduled date, the SSA advises calling their toll-free number at 1-800-772-1213 or visiting your local office. Be sure to have your Social Security number and payment history available when calling.

What About July? Will Payments Continue to Increase?

While no additional raises are expected in July, all eyes are on the 2026 COLA estimate. Early projections from the Senior Citizens League suggest next year’s increase could be under 3%, reflecting cooling inflation trends. That means June 2025 may stand as the peak month for benefit amounts this year.
