Mets secure series win over Rockies (highlights)

The New York Mets (41-24) stayed hot in Denver on Saturday night, powering their way to an 8-1 win over the Colorado Rockies (12-52) behind a trio of home runs and a clutch performance from Clay Holmes.

Holmes allowed nine hits across six innings, but danced around traffic all night, stranding eight Rockies to keep the Mets in control. The right-hander gave up just one run, a solo homer in the fourth, and struck out six without walking a batter. His ability to escape multiple jams gave New York’s offense time to settle in and take over.

Ronny Mauricio got the bats going with a 456-foot moonshot in the third, his first of two hits on the night. Jared Young added a solo blast in the fifth to give the Mets the lead for good, and Jeff McNeil tacked on another in the sixth. Brandon Nimmo and Luis Torrens chipped in with clutch two-out RBI to break things open late. Francisco Lindor collected three hits and swiped two bags in his return to the starting lineup.

The Mets finished with 10 hits and went 3-for-7 with runners in scoring position after an early slump in key spots. José Butto and José Castillo each delivered a scoreless inning in relief to seal the win.

Box Score

The Mets will aim for a sweep on Sunday afternoon with Tylor Megill set to take the mound opposite Rockies rookie Chase Dollander. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:10 p.m.
