Canandaigua City Councilor Michael Mills has launched his bid for the 54th State Senate seat, currently held by Republican Pam Helming, according to the Finger Lakes Times. The Democrat joins Palmyra’s Scott Comegys in seeking the party nomination ahead of the 2026 election.
Mills, a former Geneva BID director and vice chair of the Ontario County Chamber of Commerce board, cited his experience in economic development and public policy as key qualifications. He said his campaign will focus on affordability, infrastructure, and environmental protection across the Finger Lakes.
He plans to spend the next 18 months touring the district, aiming to unite voters across party lines. Mills lives in Canandaigua with his wife and young son.
