A new study from UC San Francisco finds that chronic cannabis use—especially edibles—may significantly increase the risk of premature heart disease. Vascular function in regular users was cut by over half compared to non-users, with edibles showing greater harm than smoking.
Researchers found edible users had a 50% drop in vascular performance, versus 42% for smokers. The findings challenge assumptions that edibles are safer and align with growing research linking cannabis to cardiovascular risks.
While the study doesn’t prove causation, experts say the results highlight the need for larger studies to better understand marijuana’s long-term health impacts.
