Wayne County Sheriff Rob Milby pushed back Friday against a federal claim that his county is defying immigration law, according to WHAM. The Department of Homeland Security recently named Wayne among several New York counties it labeled “sanctuary jurisdictions.”
Milby called the accusation “nonsense,” saying his office cooperates with federal agencies and even assisted in a recent drug bust. He emphasized that while his team responds to urgent calls, they avoid involvement in civil immigration matters, which fall outside their scope.
He’s now working with DHS to clarify the county’s position and remove it from the list.
