Congressman Nick Langworthy announced this week that New York State will receive $328,000 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to monitor water quality at Lake Erie beaches.
The funding, awarded under the Beaches Environmental Assessment and Coastal Health (BEACHES) Act, will help track bacteria levels and alert the public when swimming conditions become unsafe.
“It is crucial that our beach communities along Lake Erie received this funding to ensure the beaches are safe and open for business,” said Langworthy. “I will always be an advocate of the public receiving the information they need to enjoy all Lake Erie has to offer – including water sports, beachgoing, and recreation.”
The initiative aligns with the EPA’s “Powering the Great American Comeback” plan, which promotes access to clean and safe water for all Americans.
