Judge halts Trump bid to end NYC toll plan

A federal judge has temporarily blocked the Trump administration from forcing New York to end its congestion pricing program. The MTA secured a restraining order Tuesday, pausing threats by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to withhold federal funding for transit projects.

Duffy had warned the MTA to abandon the toll or risk losing funds, but the court sided—at least for now—with the state. Gov. Kathy Hochul and MTA officials praised the decision as a win for local control and a boost to transit investment.

The Biden-era policy, launched in January, aims to ease Manhattan traffic while raising revenue. The legal fight resumes June 9.
