UPDATE: Seneca Falls woman airlifted from Romulus crash with serious injuries

We’ve learned new details about the crash that resulted in one person being airlifted from a scene in the town of Romulus last week.

Deputies responded to the two-car crash at the intersection of County Road 129 and Vineyard Road at around 11:20 a.m. on May 20, which resulted in serious injuries.

Investigators determined that Betsy A. Smith, 79, had been driving west on Vineyard Road in a white Audi A3 when she failed to yield at a stop sign. Smith’s vehicle entered the intersection and was struck by a grey Chevrolet Silverado traveling north on County Road 129, driven by Joshua R. Patchen, 33, of Romulus.

The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles. Smith sustained serious injuries and was flown by Life Net of New York to Upstate Medical University for treatment.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office said Smith will be issued a traffic ticket related to the crash. She is scheduled to appear in Romulus Town Court at a later date.

The Romulus Fire Department and North Seneca Ambulance also responded to the scene and assisted deputies during the investigation.
