A payroll system failure left many Ithaca City School District employees without pay ahead of Memorial Day weekend, sparking union outrage.
According to The Ithaca Voice, the issue was blamed on a system crash tied to contract-related bonuses. That delayed direct deposits until late Friday—too late for some banks to release funds before the holiday.
Paper check recipients were unaffected, according to their reporting. Union leaders say the delay left low-wage staff especially vulnerable, and attempts to get emergency checks were denied.
Most deposits were available by Friday evening, but some staff won’t access their pay until Tuesday. The district has not publicly responded to the mishap.
