Brake failure blamed for three-car crash in Walworth

A Saturday afternoon crash in Walworth sent two people to the hospital after a vehicle with faulty brakes triggered a three-car collision, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 3:30 p.m. on May 17 to the intersection of Penfield-Walworth Road and State Route 350. Investigators determined that the driver of the at-fault vehicle, Zachary D. Rink of Woods Edge in Walworth, rear-ended a car that was stopped in traffic. The impact pushed the second car into another vehicle stopped ahead.

Two passengers in the first vehicle struck—21-year-old Sharon Green and her 13-year-old sibling—suffered minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Deputies cited Rink for inadequate brakes. He is scheduled to appear in Walworth Town Court to answer the charge.

The Walworth Fire Department and Wayne County EMS assisted at the scene.
