Yates County law enforcement will step up efforts to prevent impaired driving during Memorial Day weekend, joining a statewide initiative aimed at saving lives.
Sheriff Frank Ryan announced that local agencies will participate in New York’s STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign from May 23 to May 26. The initiative comes during one of the most heavily traveled weekends of the year and signals the start of summer.
Law enforcement across the state will coordinate patrols to target impaired drivers and reduce alcohol- and drug-related crashes. “You can help to make a difference by having a Sober Plan!” Ryan urged in the announcement.
Residents are encouraged to download the “Have a Plan” mobile app at www.stopdwi.org/mobileapp, which helps users find a safe ride home. The sheriff emphasized that impaired driving is entirely preventable with proper planning.
“Have a safe and happy holiday weekend, and ensure that others can do the same by not taking part in drinking or drugged driving,” the statement concluded.
