Most Rochester Gas & Electric customers are now paying about $11 more each month, as the utility enters the final year of a previously approved three-year rate plan, according to News10NBC.
The increase, effective May 1, helps fund infrastructure upgrades, including substation expansions needed to handle growing demand. One such project in Parma alone costs $5.8 million. RG&E officials say more improvements are necessary to meet reliability standards and state clean energy mandates.
The utility plans to return to state regulators soon to seek new rate increases beyond this plan, citing rising costs and the push for energy system modernization.
