Deputies arrested a man early Saturday morning after his vehicle crashed through a gate at a Lyons campground and he continued driving without stopping.
The driver, 69-year-old James L. Blankenberg of Clifton Springs, was charged with driving while intoxicated following the incident at Nor-Win Campground around 12:55 a.m. on May 17.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of property damage after a vehicle struck the gate and left the scene. When deputies located Blankenberg, they observed signs of intoxication, including the odor of alcohol.
A standardized field sobriety test led to his arrest. Breath alcohol testing later confirmed a blood alcohol content of .14%, according to the press release.
Deputies transported Blankenberg to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for processing. He was then taken to the county jail for fingerprinting and photos before being released with appearance tickets for a future court date in Lyons Town Court.
