The Bronx was buzzing on Friday night as the Yankees (26-18) kicked off the 2025 Subway Series with a 6-2 victory over the Mets (28-17), in front of a season-high crowd of 47,700 at Yankee Stadium. The win snapped a four-game skid against their crosstown rivals.
Carlos Rodón led the way with five strong innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out five. Despite a rising pitch count, the lefty escaped a fourth-inning jam with the bases loaded, continuing his dominant stretch, now boasting a 1.15 ERA over his last six starts.
The Yankees broke things open in the third inning, taking advantage of a wild Tylor Megill, who issued five walks in just 2.2 innings. A four-run frame featured a bases-loaded walk to Oswald Peraza and some timely contact, helped along by Francisco Lindor’s seventh error of the season.
The offense was led by Cody Bellinger, who extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a 3-for-5 night, including a double and two runs scored. Aaron Judge added two hits and two runs, while Paul Goldschmidt drove in a pair.
Jonathan Loáisiga returned from the injured list and tossed a scoreless sixth, and Devin Williams struck out the side in the eighth. Luke Weaver came on for the final out after Lindor’s RBI double in the ninth and retired Juan Soto to secure the win.
Game 2 of the Subway Series is scheduled for Saturday at 1:05 p.m., with Clarke Schmidt set to take the mound for New York opposite Griffin Canning.
