Brian Burkheiser is stepping away from I Prevail, marking the end of an era for the Grammy-nominated rock band.
After more than 10 years as the group’s clean vocalist, Burkheiser’s departure was announced on May 15, 2025. In a statement posted to social media, the band called the split “mutual” and “difficult,” while thanking him for a decade of contributions.
Why Brian Burkheiser left I Prevail
Burkheiser had dealt with ongoing health issues for years, including Eagle syndrome—a rare condition that causes severe neck and facial pain. He underwent multiple surgeries and took time off in 2024 to recover.
“This disease has broken me over the last few years,” Burkheiser previously said. While he returned for tour dates last summer and welcomed a son in January 2025, he has now exited the group. The band has not confirmed whether his medical condition was a factor in the decision.
What’s next for I Prevail
I Prevail will carry on with Eric Vanlerberghe handling full vocal duties. Guitarist Dylan Bowman will continue providing backup vocals. The band said it remains committed to its current tour schedule, including a performance at Welcome to Rockville.
The group’s latest release, True Power, dropped in 2022 through Fearless Records. An expanded edition arrived in 2024, featuring new tracks and reimagined versions of previous hits.
A major voice steps away
Since I Prevail’s 2013 debut, Burkheiser’s emotional delivery and clean vocals helped define the band’s sound. Songs like “Hurricane” pushed the band into mainstream rock charts and earned Grammy nods.
His quiet exit marks a major shift, but fans continue to celebrate his legacy—and support whatever comes next.
