Inmate indicted for deadly attack at Groveland prison

A Sonyea man has been indicted for second-degree murder after an inmate was killed last fall at Groveland Correctional Facility, according to the Livingston County DA’s Office. The October 26 incident left 36-year-old Rashawn Belle dead and another person injured.

Authorities say Gabriel Jasmin, 53, used a deadly weapon during the attack. He now faces murder and assault charges and could receive up to 25 years to life if convicted.

Jasmin was arraigned Tuesday and is due back in court on July 1.
