A new guided walking tour invites residents and visitors to walk the same path Elizabeth Cady Stanton likely took on July 19, 1848, when she helped launch the first women’s rights convention.
Hosted by the Seneca Falls Historical Society and local guide Amy McMahon of GuideGuides, the tour will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 13, starting and ending at the Becker Mansion at 55 Cayuga St. Admission is $5 per person, and a rain date is set for Friday, June 20.
Participants will explore downtown Seneca Falls and hear the stories behind its landmarks, as well as the people who shaped the town’s history. The route retraces the likely steps Stanton took from her home on Washington Street to the Wesleyan Chapel on Fall Street, where the convention began—despite a rough start when attendees found the doors locked.
The tour also highlights McMahon’s audio walking tour of Seneca Falls, available on the VoiceMap app, with a portion of proceeds supporting the historical society.
