Longtime Geneva High School Principal Greg Baker will step into a new role as the district’s director of school accountability, effective July 1, ending a 14-year tenure marked by academic and extracurricular growth.
Taking over as principal of the high school will be Matt Heath, current principal of Geneva Middle School. The district plans to begin its search for Heath’s replacement in the coming weeks.
“It has been my honor to serve as Geneva High School’s principal for the past 14 years,” Baker said. “During this time, we have seen unprecedented growth and success on every level, from academics to the expansion of clubs and athletics. I am confident that the school will reach even greater heights under Mr. Heath’s leadership.”
Baker’s new position consolidates two district-level jobs: data coordinator and grants coordinator. Superintendent Bo Wright said the move streamlines operations and saves money. “Combining two district-level positions allows us to realize efficiencies within the school budget,” Wright said. “Greg is an experienced administrator who has served the district for a long time — he’s very astute when it comes to using data for school improvement purposes, and I look forward to working with him in his new role.”
The previous data coordinator, Kevin Fairben, retired this winter, while the grants coordinator role had been filled temporarily by retired staffer Maureen Lee.
Heath has led Geneva Middle School since 2022. He joined the district in 2019 as an instructional coach and became an administrative intern in 2020. He previously worked in the Syracuse City School District.
“While I will deeply miss walking the halls of GMS and seeing the staff and students there every day, I’m excited by the opportunity to serve our students and community in this new capacity,” Heath said.
Wright praised the leadership transition. “Matt has proven himself as a talented, dynamic leader,” he said. “He knows our students and our district and has helped the middle school make significant progress in the past few years. We expect that he’ll be able to continue that work at the high school.”
Baker holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from Hobart College and a master’s in educational administration from St. John Fisher College. Heath earned a bachelor’s in history and education and a master’s in special education, both from Le Moyne College.
