A kinetic statue celebrating the legacy of Roseland Park will officially debut on May 16 in Canandaigua, according to The Canandaigua Messenger. The sculpture, named Ghost of Roseland, honors the beloved amusement park that closed 40 years ago after delighting generations along the Finger Lakes.
Perched near Lakefront Park, the stainless steel artwork features miniature rides from the park—like a carousel and Ferris wheel—that move using hydraulics and electric motors. Sculptor Benji Carr crafted the piece atop a stanchion from one of the park’s original attractions.
Driven by former Mayor Ellen Polimeni’s vision for recurring public art, the project was funded through a grassroots campaign and county grant. Visitors will also enjoy sounds, visuals, and a storyboard capturing Roseland’s rich history.
