Apple has agreed to pay $95 million to settle a class action lawsuit over allegations that its Siri voice assistant recorded private conversations without consent. U.S. users have until July 2, 2025, to file a claim for compensation.
What was the Siri lawsuit about?
The lawsuit, Lopez v. Apple Inc., accused the company of violating user privacy by allowing Siri to activate unintentionally and record private conversations. Plaintiffs alleged those recordings were later shared with third-party contractors. In some cases, users reported seeing targeted ads that appeared to reference private conversations.
While Apple denies wrongdoing, the company opted to settle the lawsuit and avoid a drawn-out legal battle.
Who is eligible for a payout?
You may qualify for a payment if you:
- Owned or used a Siri-enabled Apple device between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024
- Experienced at least one unintended Siri activation during a private or confidential conversation
- Lived in the United States during that period
Eligible devices include:
- iPhone
- iPad
- MacBook
- Apple Watch
- iMac
- HomePod
- Apple TV
- iPod touch
How much can you claim?
Each eligible person can receive up to $20 per Siri-enabled device, with a maximum of five devices—for a total potential payout of up to $100 per person.
The final payment amount may be lower depending on the number of valid claims submitted. The settlement fund will be distributed after court approval in August.
