Geneva mayor calls police scandal ‘disheartening’

Geneva Mayor Steve Valentino voiced deep disappointment following the arrest of a city police officer and the suspension of two others, according to WHAM. He addressed public concern after Officer Michael Tapscott resigned amid allegations of selling drugs while on duty.

Valentino, clearly frustrated, said the situation tarnishes the city’s image and undermines the hard work of the broader police force. He emphasized how upsetting it is to see a hometown officer violate public trust, especially as Geneva strives to build a strong community reputation.

Calling for patience, the mayor assured residents that city leaders are prioritizing transparency and accountability. He expressed hope that the department and the city would emerge stronger from the crisis.
