An Elmira man will serve 20 years in state prison for fatally shooting Zachary VanHorn in June 2024, according to WETM. Marcus A. Jones-Snyder was sentenced on May 9 after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter in Chemung County Court.
Prosecutors said Jones-Snyder shot the 21-year-old victim in the chest with a loaded handgun during an incident on Grove Street. He originally faced a second-degree murder charge but accepted a plea deal for a lesser conviction.
The sentence includes an additional two and a half years of post-release supervision. Jones-Snyder’s conviction marks the end of a nearly yearlong investigation into the fatal shooting.
