Sheriff warns Seneca Lake boaters of storm hazards

Boaters on Seneca Lake should be cautious due to dangerous conditions, according to the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office. Recent rainfall has caused higher water levels, creating strong currents and scattering debris that could pose serious risks.

Officials also advised residents to protect private property by keeping watercraft at least 500 feet from shore when traveling at wake-producing speeds. The sheriff’s office stressed the importance of minimizing shoreline erosion and avoiding wakes near docks, homes, and other sensitive areas.

Following these safety measures will help protect both residents and visitors during this period of elevated risk.
