The legendary Gears of War franchise is getting a major revival this summer. Microsoft has officially announced Gears of War: Reloaded, a full remaster of the original 2006 title, set to launch on August 26, 2025. Fans can experience the iconic game with stunning upgrades on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
However, there’s no word yet on a release for Nintendo Switch or the upcoming Switch 2.
What is Gears of War Reloaded?
Gears of War: Reloaded is being described as the ultimate version of the original game. According to Microsoft, the remaster will feature:
- 4K resolution support
- 120 FPS performance
- Cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms
- Immediate access to all post-launch DLC at no additional cost
- Expanded campaign including the bonus act from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition
- Full multiplayer suite with classic maps, modes, and character unlocks
- Two-player campaign co-op and 8-player multiplayer matches
Players who previously owned Gears of War: Ultimate Edition before the May 5 announcement will receive Reloaded as a free upgrade.
Will Gears of War Reloaded be available on Nintendo Switch?
While fans were hoping for a broader platform release, The Coalition, the studio behind the series, confirmed that Gears of War: Reloaded will not be available on Nintendo Switch or the Switch 2 at launch.
Despite the Switch 2’s upcoming upgrades—including enhanced DLSS support, a custom NVIDIA GPU, and variable refresh rate capabilities—there has been no announcement regarding a future port. For now, only PC, Xbox, and PlayStation players will be able to dive back into the Locust-filled world.
A new era for Gears of War
The release of Reloaded isn’t the only major move for the franchise. Microsoft is also working on Gears of War: E-Day, an all-new entry set earlier in the series timeline. However, E-Day does not yet have a confirmed release date.
This marks a significant shift for Gears of War, a franchise once considered a core Xbox exclusive. By launching Reloaded on PlayStation, Microsoft continues its strategy of expanding first-party titles across platforms.
