  • Staff Report

A routine traffic stop in the Town of Lyons led to the arrest of a woman wanted as a fugitive from justice.

Deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office arrested Emily C. Oakes, 36, of Phelps Street, Lyons, after stopping her vehicle on State Route 31 at 11:48 p.m. on May 2. Authorities said Oakes was operating a vehicle with inadequate license plate lamps, prompting the investigation.

During the traffic stop, deputies discovered that Oakes had an active warrant issued by the State of New Jersey. With the assistance of the New York State Police, she was taken into custody without incident.

Oakes was transported to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and booked into the Wayne County Jail. She is scheduled to appear for Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) court at 7:00 a.m. on May 3.

The investigation was led by Deputy M. Bastedo.
