A Farmington resident faces a felony charge after an investigation into alleged fraud involving public assistance benefits, authorities said.

Jonatan Encamacion-Diaz, 37, was arrested by Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies on April 29 and charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a Class E felony. The arrest followed a detailed investigation into allegations that he failed to report employment income while receiving social services benefits.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, evidence showed that Encamacion-Diaz received benefits from the Ontario County Department of Social Services while earning unreported income from November 1, 2023, through March 31, 2034. Deputies said the investigation was launched after a report was made to their office.

Encamacion-Diaz was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Hopewell Town Court at a later date. The investigation was conducted by Investigator Woehr.
