For the second time, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has deemed Seneca Meadows Inc.’s draft Environmental Impact Statement incomplete, according to the Finger Lakes Times. Neither the agency nor landfill officials disclosed what new issues prompted the rejection.
Seneca Meadows filed its initial expansion plan in July 2024, hoping to keep the landfill open through 2040. Without approval, it must close by the end of 2025 under town law and its expiring state permit.
Despite legal challenges, a court upheld the closure law earlier this year, maintaining pressure on the landfill’s future operations.
