A deputy’s late-night traffic stop in Aurelius led to the arrest of a man now facing multiple charges, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.
Kelly G. Caster, 29, was arrested on April 29 after a deputy observed his pickup truck driving recklessly near Clark Street Road around 11:22 p.m. Sheriff Brian Schenck announced the details in a release on May 1.
According to the report, Caster exited the Finger Lakes Mall parking lot before driving erratically, prompting a traffic stop. Following an investigation and field sobriety tests, authorities determined Caster was driving while intoxicated. He was charged with DWI first offense under NYS VTL 1192(3), reckless driving under NYS VTL 1212, and other traffic infractions.
Officials said Caster refused to provide a breath sample to determine his blood alcohol content. He was transported to the Cayuga County Jail for CAP Court arraignment and later released. Caster is scheduled to appear in the Town of Aurelius Court at a later date.
The sheriff’s office encouraged anyone with information related to the incident to contact them or submit an anonymous tip through their SaferWatch app.
