A fire at Drumlin Estates in Marion sent heavy smoke billowing from an apartment, prompting a swift emergency response just after 4 p.m., according to fire crews. The blaze was contained within 45 minutes, thanks in part to a concrete firewall.
Assistant Chief Matt Hobbs praised firefighters for quickly battling intense heat and smoke to stop the fire from spreading to neighboring units. All residents escaped safely, and no injuries were reported.
The Red Cross is assisting displaced residents, though it remains unclear how many were affected across the building’s eight units.
