Steuben County deputies arrest man for robbery and assault

A man was arrested in Bath after a violent attack that left a victim injured and gasping for air.

Deputies from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Andrew M. Machuga, 30, of State Route 415, Bath, following a report of a woman screaming for help on April 29 in the Town of Bath. According to the sheriff’s office, Machuga allegedly struck another person multiple times, choked them, and forcibly stole property.


The victim received treatment from emergency medical services at the scene and was later released. Machuga was charged with robbery in the second degree, a class C felony, assault in the third degree, and criminal obstruction of breathing. After arraignment in Centralized Arraignment Court, he was held for felony offenses.

Sheriff Jim Allard expressed thanks to the New York State Police for assisting in the arrest.
