In a proactive effort to protect local houses of worship, the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office hosted its Second Annual Church Leadership Safety Meeting at the Law Enforcement Center this week.

Led by Investigator Palmer, the session brought together church leaders and law enforcement to discuss strategies for improving safety and preparedness in faith-based spaces, which are often considered soft targets.

The meeting focused on identifying potential threats, building emergency response plans, and fostering collaboration between congregations and police. Attendees were encouraged to ask questions and share concerns about vulnerabilities in their own buildings and gatherings.

“This was a great opportunity for collaboration between law enforcement and the community, emphasizing the importance of safety in our houses of worship,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a public statement.

The department thanked those who participated and urged broader attendance at future sessions to continue building community resilience and awareness.
