Prices on budget shopping giants Shein and Temu have surged after President Trump’s new tariffs took effect, with some items more than tripling in cost, according to Bloomberg data.
Shein raised prices on top products by over 50%, with kitchen towels and cosmetics seeing hikes of up to 377%. Temu added steep “import charges” at checkout, sometimes exceeding the item’s base price. Both companies cite rising operating costs tied to Trump’s 145% tariff on Chinese imports and the end of the de minimis exemption.
Shoppers have voiced frustration online, with many declaring they’re done with the platforms.
