Correction officers charged in the fatal beating of Robert Brooks at Marcy Correctional Facility have been granted more time to consider plea deals, according to Oneida County Court proceedings this week.
Ten officers face various charges, with five — including Nicholas Anzalone and David Kingsley — charged with murder. Their attorneys requested more time due to newly received body camera footage and technical issues accessing files. One defense attorney even alleged evidence was improperly altered, a claim prosecutors deny.
Despite Judge Robert Bauer’s frustration with delays, all defendants now have until mid-May to decide whether to accept plea deals or proceed to trial.
