Veterans receiving disability benefits will see a larger deposit beginning in May 2025, thanks to the 2025 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA).
The adjustment raised VA disability compensation by 2.5%, providing monthly increases between $5 and $111, depending on disability ratings and family circumstances.
How VA benefits are calculated
The Department of Veterans Affairs assigns a disability rating based on the severity of a veteran’s condition. Monthly compensation also depends on family status. For example, veterans supporting a spouse, parents, or children usually receive more than single recipients.
Because inflation reduces purchasing power, the COLA aims to keep benefits aligned with rising costs. Although the 2025 adjustment marked the smallest in five years, it remains essential for those depending on VA benefits.
Who qualifies for nearly $100 more?
Veterans with a 100% disability rating and no dependents will receive $3,831.30 each month in 2025. This is up from $3,737.85 in 2024, representing a $93.45 increase.
The increase took effect with December 2024 benefits. However, the payment scheduled for May 1, 2025, will reflect the higher amount for April benefits.
VA benefits payment schedule for 2025
VA disability payments typically arrive on the first business day of the following month. If that day falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment moves to the last business day of the previous month.
